The SILVER 820 SF Press is designed to apply Hot
Stamping Foil and Holographic Hot Stamping Foil on to sheets of
paper and other media.
The base unit is a Heidelberg SBB press. The best available quality unit
is purchased at the time of order confirmation, before a comprehensive
renovation and conversion is completed. Heidelberg manufactured the
SBB press until 1980 and the exact year of manufacture of the base
press being converted is only known at the time it is purchased.
The renovated Heidelberg SBB press is converted to a security press in
stages as follows:
• Modifications to the renovated base unit
• Replacement bed assembly
• Foil control system
• Electrical system
• Control system
• Guarding system
The assembly of this unit uses newly manufactured components which
are tested, reliable and of good quality.
Paper Positioning- essential for accurate foil registration, this is achieved with great precision by using the same side lay and head lay positioning system used in the printing process.
Foil Tray- has an easy release lid that enables full access for the positioning of up to 12 foil rolls across the full width of the bed. Once the dividers are set they remain in position, even when changing foil rolls during a production run. This minimises the time taken for a foil change and ensures the correct positioning of the foil from one roll to the next. The rolls are automatically kept under a constant tension, from the maximum diameter 90 mm roll to an empty core.
Fixed Bed- comprises of one heated honeycomb plates, each plate is supplied with its own temperature controllers. There are also four temperature sensing points per plate this provides total control of heat distribution across the whole bed. Information from the temperature sensors is fed back to the microprocessor control unit maintaining the temperature at the pre-set level. The heat sensors are close to the surface of the bed so they accurately measure the temperature of the dies.
Adjustable Bed (optional extra)- each of the four plates in the heated bed can be height adjusted individually. Adjustment minimum to maximum is 0.6 mm, allowing for different die thickness, embossing work and, as a result, greatly reduces ‘make ready’ time.
Foil Control System- the key to efficient application of hot stamping foils. SF Services has developed many unique software and hardware features that are incorporated into the Press. These features have been developed in our Group foil blocking factories.
Foil Pull Through- substantially constructed and mounted on the end of the bed. The foil pull assembly can accommodate up to four full width rewinds. Each of the foil pull units features a microprocessor control, allowing five different pull lengths with up to ninety nine repeats of each length per program. Complex foil advance programs can be entered into the computer to cope with the most demanding of foiling layouts. The units can be programmed to achieve ‘step-ins’ even when running registered image holograms.
Foil Pull Speed- is automatically minimised offering excellent foil control. There is also a foil counter on each foil pull to tell the operator how many impressions are left before the foil runs out so increasing operator efficiency.
Other Features - include automatic ‘no sheet’ processing, ensuring that the machine does not make a pass (or impression) if there is no sheet present on the cylinder and double sheet elimination, avoiding damage to make ready and dies should two sheets attempt to pass through the machine at once.
